Description: |
On 2014-08-17 the australian amateur astronome Terry Lovejoy discovered this comet as an object with magnitude 15 in the constellation of Puppis. It was his 5th comet discovery. Path calculation revealed that it could approach the Earth to 70 million km (0.469 AU) on January 7th 2015. It could reach a brightness of about 8 mag. Brightness increased a lot more than expected üin the following weeks. C/2014 Q2 is a long period comet with an orbital period of about 14,000 years. |
