Description: |
M106 also known as NGC4258 is a spiral galaxy in the constellation of Canes Venatici in a distance of about 23 Million light years. M106 is one of the closest examples of a Seyfert class Galaxy. It contains some mass rich star formation areas and some giant H-II regions. A few years ago the existance of a black hole has been confirmed. Like our Milky Way M106 is a spiral galaxy with several arms. In addition it has some unusual arms detectable in X-ray and radio observations. The size of the black hole is unusual too. Scientists estimate it to be 10 times the size compared to the one of our Milky Way. While the black hole in our galaxy is swallowing a sun only once in a while the one in M106 became a greedy monster already. |
